Description:
Camp Misquah is an overnight summer camp for adults and children with disabilities. The Environmental Site Director will be responsible for the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the camp site in addition to the planning, initiating and leading green initiatives and programming. This is a great opportunity for those pursuing a degree in environmental sciences or sustainability.
Qualifications:
Must be 18 years old by August 22, 2019
Must be able to provide a Criminal Record Check
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Will be trained in basic ASL, CPI, and camp procedures
Responsibilities:
This role will be 25% site maintenance and 75% environmental initiatives and programming
Maintain, repair and ensure cleanliness of the camp
Develop a plan ahead of the start of camp for the greening of Misquah and implement including increased recycling, return of empty cans, and composing, reuse of rain water and reduction of use of plastics including the establishment of targets.
Creation and management of a Misquah food garden to increase the use of local food, leading gardening programming for campers
Planning and leading nature hikes, nature education sessions and games and other programs to involve campers in the environment camp takes place in
Produce a summary of camp's ecological impact reflecting it's numerical, specific use of resources and output of waste. Implement more sustainable practices and make recommendations.
Participate and contribute to leadership as part of the Misquah Senior Staff Team
Any other duties as deemed necessary by the Camp Director
Skills and Knowledge:
High energy and physical fitness - this role will require extended periods of time outside and working with individuals
Experience with construction, carpentry and maintenance an asset
Experience with outdoor education an asset
Environmental certifications an asset
Studying Environmental Sciences, Sustainability or other Environment-related Discipline an asset
